Lead Contamination in Salt Lakes Threatens Protected Wetlands
A study by BirdLife Cyprus as part of the EU-funded LIFE IP Physis project has detected elevated lead levels in sediments and soils of the Larnaca salt lakes and Paralimni Lake. These important Natura 2000 wetlands are endangered by lead contamination, primarily attributed to hunting activities.
