Local government reform fails: municipalities increasingly dependent on state
Cyprus' local government reform was intended to reduce municipalities' financial dependence on the state, but has had the opposite effect. According to Phileleftheros, dependency ratios have instead increased by several percentage points. The newspaper is currently publishing data on individual municipalities' revenues for 2025.
