Mental Distress Does Not Automatically Justify Release from Detention
In the case of a three-year-old child's death in Paphos, prosecutor Andreas Christou stated that a suspect's mental distress alone does not constitute grounds for avoiding or lifting pre-trial detention. The current legal system does not provide for separate treatment regarding detention matters even for suspects who are parents of the deceased child. The legal expert emphasized that psychiatric conditions cannot be considered as an isolated factor in detention decisions.
