Michelangelo's Sculpture May Show Early Signs of Skin Disease
A new study suggests that Michelangelo's marble sculpture "Awakening Slave," created about 500 years ago, displays features of a chronic skin disease called hidradenitis suppurativa. Signs of this painful condition are visible in the sculpture's left armpit.
