Migration: Illegal entries down 92%, asylum applications down 93%
Cyprus recorded a dramatic decline in illegal migration and asylum applications in the first half of 2026. According to Migration State Secretary Nikolas Ioannis, illegal entries have decreased by 92 percent, while the number of asylum applications has dropped by 93 percent. These successes are the result of consistent and coherent government policy that grants protection only to eligible asylum seekers.
