Migration to Cyprus Significantly Declining – EU Covers 70% of Costs
According to Deputy Minister of Migration Dr. Nicholas A. Ioannides, asylum applications in Cyprus in the first half of 2026 have fallen by 92 percent compared to 2022. The EU covers 70 percent of the country's migration-related expenses. Currently, 200,000 foreigners reside legally in Cyprus, and a 90 percent decline in migrants from sub-Saharan Africa has been recorded. Approximately 35,000 third-country nationals have departed since the current government took office, of which 5,200 did so voluntarily.
