Mount Everest fraud: Guides systematically poisoned climbers
Nepalese authorities have uncovered a fraud scheme worth 20 million dollars in which mountain guides intentionally poisoned mountaineers to justify expensive rescue operations and collect insurance payouts. 32 people, including trekking company operators and personnel, have been charged with organized crime and fraud. The scheme involved a total of 171 staged rescue operations.
