Murder of Police Officer Triggers Uprising in Paphos 1974
On September 8, 1974, shortly after the coup and Turkish invasion, 32-year-old police officer Demosthenes Georgiou was shot by members of the dissolved junta and EOKA B in Meso Chorio near Paphos. The incident occurred in front of his wife's eyes outside a church and led to considerable unrest in the region.
