NASA observes Black Sea in turquoise glow from algal bloom
The NASA spacecraft PACE documented on June 22, 2026, the rare discoloration of the Black Sea turning turquoise. This phenomenon occurs regularly in spring and summer and is caused by massive bloom processes of coccolithophores.
