New commander of UN peacekeeping forces in Cyprus appointed
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam from Bangladesh as the new commander of UNFICYP. The experienced military officer served over 30 years in the Bangladeshi Army and most recently headed the Army Training and Doctrine Command. With this appointment, he takes over leadership of the UN peacekeeping mission on the divided island.
