New marine protection regulations: Up to €20,000 fine for disturbing dolphins and turtles
New marine protection regulations have been in effect in Cyprus since March 20th, with fines of up to €20,000 and prison sentences of up to one year. The amendments to the 2026 Fisheries Regulations passed by Parliament impose severe penalties for feeding dolphins and disturbing turtle nesting sites. The Department for Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR) has informed the public about the new regulations.
