New Severe Bluetongue Disease Outbreak in Livestock
A serious outbreak of bluetongue disease was detected in a mixed livestock facility in Pera Oreinis in the Nicosia region. The mixed facility with 624 sheep and goats recorded 39 confirmed cases and 10 deaths. This is the first documented outbreak center in 2026 and the third confirmed front in less than a year. The disease is caused by the BTV-4 virus type and spreads only through insect vectors.
