Nietzsche and ancient Greece: Philosophical admiration
German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was a great admirer of ancient Greek philosophy and culture, which shaped his ideas about human existence. He saw in the pre-Socratic philosophers the creators of the "archetypes of philosophical thought" and considered Greek culture as the highest form the world has ever achieved.
