Over 2,000 ships detected in Cyprus's marine protected areas
Satellite observations by the organization Periopsis documented a total of 2,060 ships in the marine protected areas near Cape Greco, Lady's Mile and Latsi-Akamas during the summers of 2024 and 2025. The intrusions raise questions about the endangerment of local biodiversity and marine life, particularly the valuable seagrass meadows (Posidonia oceanica), which protect important coastal habitats.
