Parliament rejects plan for surveillance without court order
The Cypriot parliament is expected to abandon the planned constitutional amendment that would have allowed the intelligence service to monitor telephone conversations without a court order. Cracks have emerged within the DISY party, making it impossible to achieve the required 38 votes for the constitutional amendment. The originally planned expansion of intelligence service powers thus fails due to lack of support in parliament.
