Pioneer Photos of the Acropolis from 1870 Documented
American journalist, diplomat, and photographer William J. Stillman photographed the Acropolis in 1870 in a series of carbon prints and was among the first to document this symbol of Western culture. Stillman was a great Philhellene and served as U.S. Ambassador.
