Power supply crisis: Government and opposition clash
Following power outages on July 22, 2026 caused by overload and production failures, DISY and AKEL accuse the government of failing in energy planning. Energy Minister Damianu had attacked the opposition for its criticism. The system operator reported that electricity supply could be fully met on Friday after a 60-MW unit in Dekelia was put back into operation and available capacity rose to 1,248 MW.
