Research points to older origins of the Greek alphabet
New research from Leiden University led by Lecturer Willemijn Waal suggests that the Greek alphabet could be older than previously assumed. The alphabet was traditionally dated to the 8th century BC, but could potentially be centuries older if early versions were recorded on perishable materials. The study could fundamentally change our understanding of ancient writing history.
