Researchers Uncover Secrets of Byzantine Red Wall Paintings on Crete
Scientists have revealed new details about the production of the bright red hues in Byzantine church paintings on Crete. The study, published in the Journal of Archaeological Science, examined wall paintings from eleven churches in the Lasithi region and provided the first scientific insights into the pigments used.
