Satellites detect unregistered boats in Cypriot protected areas
A study shows that over half of 2,060 boat sightings detected by satellite in three Cypriot marine protected areas over the last two summers could not be matched with shipping traffic data. This could reflect legal activities such as tourism, but may also indicate unregistered activities. The findings raise questions about the monitoring of marine protected areas.
