Scientists discover plant that deceives birds with fake berries
Researchers have discovered a climbing plant called Dioscorea melanophyma that deceives birds through deceptively realistic-looking structures to aid in dispersing its species. The dark, glossy formations are not real berries, but rather so-called bulbils – a form of asexual reproduction. The mechanism allows the plant to perfectly adapt its dispersal strategy to bird behavior.
