Sensational discovery: 300-million-year-old fossil reclassified
A fossil that was considered the oldest known octopus for 25 years has been reassessed by scientists. The Pohlsepia mazonensis, discovered in 2000, approximately 300 million years old and recognized by Guinness as the oldest octopus fossil, is now being reclassified as a nautiloid – a different species of cephalopod with differing characteristics.
