Shocking figures: Over 18,000 cases of violence against women since 2021
Cyprus's police chief Themistos Arnaoutis reported that between 2021 and June 2026, a total of 18,409 cases of violence against women and domestic violence were reported. This resulted in 3,674 arrests, 2,858 contact bans, and 373 protective orders. Police leadership warns that the problem of gender-based violence is larger than previously assumed. In parallel, police announced psychometric testing for armed officers every three years.
