South African acquitted after 18 months in custody on rape charge
A Cypriot court has acquitted a 53-year-old South African businessman and bodybuilding coach who had spent 18 months in remand custody. The court found that the prosecution had not proven the accusations of rape and assault beyond doubt. The defendant had denied all allegations from the outset and claimed that the accusations were baseless.
