Thessaloniki Honors Boutaris with Park Despite Controversies
The city council of Thessaloniki decided to name two city parks in honor of the late mayor Giannis Boutaris and legendary singer-songwriter Dionysis Savvopoulos. While the honor for Savvopoulos found broad approval, the decision for Boutaris triggered fierce protests from nationalist groups and the Pontic Greek community.
