Turkey Plans Expansion into Buffer Zone
The Turkish occupying force disputes the status of the Cypriot buffer zone and is taking steps to occupy territory within this region. Simultaneously, it is bringing the issue of a separate agreement between the breakaway entity and UNFICYP back onto the agenda. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is leading this strategy and steering the Cyprus dossier at the strategic and tactical level.
