Turkish Opposition Leader Demands 'Turkish Republic of Cyprus' as Designation
The court-appointed leader of the Turkish opposition party CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, called on Tuesday for the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus to be referred to as the 'Turkish Republic of Cyprus'. He referenced deceased Turkish Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit and his role in the occupation of Cyprus and the founding of this entity. Kılıçdaroğlu thus represents a controversial political position that supports the internationally little-recognized entity in the north.
