Two Byzantine Icons from the 14th Century Returned to Cyprus
Two Byzantine icons from the 14th century depicting the evangelists Matthew and Mark have been returned to Cyprus. The artworks originally came from the Church of Panayia of Asinou, a 12th-century church in the Troodos Mountains, and had been smuggled out of Kyrenia following the Turkish invasion in 1974. The Diocese of Morphou announced the repatriation.
