USS Gerald R. Ford: 17-Euro Souvlaki in Crete Causes Uproar
The US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford had to dock at Souda Bay in Crete for repairs after a 30-hour fire in the laundry room. For security reasons, the crew was not allowed to leave the dock and had to buy overpriced food, including souvlaki for 17 euros. The brief stay of the ship with thousands of sailors became a costly experience of Greek hospitality.
