Von der Leyen Calls for Stronger EU Autonomy and Climate Protection
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented in her 2026 State of the Union address a European Union that should act more independently, have fewer strategic dependencies, and have stronger defense. Simultaneously, she announced comprehensive new initiatives, including an Article 4 equivalent as in NATO and regulations for social media to protect minors.
