Why the Term Femicide Is Necessary
Globally, approximately 85,000 women and girls were intentionally killed in 2023, of which approximately 51,000 were killed by partners or family members. This means that on average approximately 140 women and girls are killed daily by someone from their immediate circle. The article argues for the use of the term "femicide" to properly name this form of violence.
