Wildfires in Greece: Tourists Flee from Holiday Regions
Tourists and residents fled by land and sea from villages in the Chalkidiki region in northern Greece as a wildfire fanned by strong winds destroyed houses and vegetation near holiday resorts during peak season. On the Croatian Dalmatian coast, violent gusts also complicated firefighting efforts, with a section of the main highway having to be closed.
