Former Barcelona player and coach Xavi Hernandez was appointed coach of the Dutch national team and received a four-year contract through the 2030 World Cup. Xavi takes over a team that was eliminated in the group stage on penalties against Morocco at the 2026 World Cup. It is the Netherlands' worst result in a long time.
